The Shop’s scales had broken some months ago but due to lack of funds it had not been possible to replace them.
Our Treasurer Wendy and her husband David headed off to Nepal in October 2023 to trek the 3 High Passes route in the Everest Region, This 16 day trek from teahouse to teahouse was the hardest thing they had ever done. The high passes are just that, high, all over 5,000m and it would be good to have some motivation to get her though the tough days.
So Wendy set up a crowdfunding page, ‘Scaling Heights for Scales’ to raise funds for the shop . Together with donations given directly to the shop for this initiative, Wendy raised an amazing £ 1,395. And Wendy says that knowing so many people had sponsored her really did help her get over those passes.
The new scales cost £540, so Wendy smashed her target. The rest of the money has kick started the fund raising we need to do to secure the future of the shop.
